Installing CAM 6.9

My current installation of CAM is 6.5.  I want to install the latest version, 6.9, but I don't want to install the firmware.  I believe that it is possible, but I've never done it before, I and want to make sure that I don't cause a major outage.
What do I need to do to install CAM, but not the firmware?
