Accounting flexfield default values appearing in FSG Segment override

We are setting up R12 and have set a default value for three segments of our COA to zero since they are reserved  for future use.  However, these values are being populated in the Segment override when submitting an FSG report.  We have applied a patch that now allows us to clear the values but is there a way to stop them from being populated?  I have seen some post that recommend that the default values be removed but is there anther way to stop the default values from being populated?  We would like to have the values defaulted in
