When to clear data after adding members

Do I need to clear data every time I add dimension members before I refresh the database?

I am looking for information that will help me decide if I need to clear data before I refresh the database. 

The reason I ask is because the aggregation calculations for all of our versions/scenario combinations take a full day of processing after we clear data.  If there are situations when I can add members and refresh the database without clearing, this would save us the day of calculation processing.
