Scheduling RMAN backups

I wanted to know if its possible to schedule RMAN to run a backup of our database. Once the backup is completed I can schedule a tool like Backup exec or ARCServe to backup the backup files into tape.  If I can do this, what files do I need in order to recover the database from a complete disaster. Im currently running the databse in Archivelog mode.

If its not possible to schedule RMAN is there a script I can use in Redhat Linux so that I can set up the scheduler to run it? Thanks in advanced.
