Entering Locators When Receiving

Currently, when we do our receiving we are required to enter a locator for some of the items that we receive. What is the impact of changing our subinventory settings from "prespecified" to "none"? We have tested it in our test environment and have found that a locator is not required when making this switch. However, what is the impact of not entering any locators during receiving?
