Using hand-held bar code scanners for Fixed Assets

Has anyone ever set up Fixed Assets to allow using a handheld barcode scanner to scan asset tags and upload that information to Oracle Fixed Assets? I know it can be done but I have no idea how to set it up. Any input or information to point me in the right direction would be most appreciated.
