11.5.10 to 12.1.3 changes with Inventory Open Period

Looked at  period close advisor and need to know 1. Is there a  mandotory requirement to close  Inventory  period  going forward in release 12.1.3
2. Is there any pre-upgrade requirement  of closing  existing Inventory Open periods

   Note : Inventory Open period is  not current. These are old open periods
