How to pay transactions partially and then fully?

Hi Gurus,

I raised an AR transaction for $5000.

First applied receipt for @1000.

Later while trying to apply the balance amount system throws error as below:

APP-AR-11651: You have paid the same invoice twice. Please correct

Checked metalink and as per ID 460857.1, says to sum up all applications and create a single consolidated payment.

I tried applying with both $5000 and $4000, but no luck.

Can any shed light on how to handle this?
