CAM best practices

Our 6540 is running CAM version 6.0.1.11.The latest available version of CAM is 6.9.
When replacing failed 300GB disks CAM reported error code 63.75.42.

Does Oracle recommend running the latest version of CAM as a "Best Practice" ?  Can I upgrade directly from 6.0.1.11 to 6.9?
