AWK command

Dear experts,
I have some requirement to use awk command in a day to day activities, but I don't know anything about awk command.  Please tell me what is the use of awk, when we use awk, in which scenario we use awk ?

Please give me some examples with explanation for my better understanding.  Awaiting for your reply
