Shopping category - Purchasing category - Iprocurement

can someone explain me please (vision database r12)

the mapping from shopping category and purchasing category ?

I can eg map a shopping category IT supplies to purchasing category computer.pc

and then I can map the purchasing category product.drives to the shopping category IT supplies

so what is mapped to mapped then; I do not understand;

So you can map a PO category to a shopping category and vice versa 

I do no see why
