Golden Gate recovery scenarios

I am looking for documentaion ,  experiences, or  notes about recovering scenarios for Golden Gate.  We are presenlty using streams and want to use GG.  For instance, my user turned off the secondary server connected with streams for 2 days without telling the dbas who were offsite.  We couldn't recover very well because of the way the user deals with archive logs and netbackup.  The archive logs had been deleted. (user error and misunderstanding). 

So we had to rebuild the instance on the secondary machine.   If we move to GG and the same situation occured.  What is necessary to recover ?
