Cold Standby - 10.2.0.4

Hi,

We have a 2 node RAC (10.2.0.4) running on Linux. We are using Standard edition
We were thinking of having a single stand alone database server to be used as COLD Standby so that if there is any issue on the primary server, we can put this single server online (ideally with no data loss, i.e. the COLD standby
is up to date with production as much as possible)

Is there a way we can accomplish this without using Data Guard?

We will appreciate any guidance / suggestions
