Checkpoint not complete error

Hello,

In my alert log i am seeing Checkpoint not complete and If i manually do a "alter system checkpoint". It takes about 20 mins for a checkpoint to happen.

Due to this most of the time status of redo log groups remain ACTIVE.

There are 8 log groups in my database 6 log groups are of 200 MB each and i recently added two log groups of 512 MB each 
Oracle database version is 10.2.0.4
Kindly let me know if any parameter can be set  to resolve this issue.
