Anonymous Trace files being created when Open Period job runs

Happy New Year!

We ran the Open Period job for JAN-13 and discovered the creation of these very large anonymous trace files in our Oracle trace directory.  We have not noticed them being created previously .  Can anyone tell me why the Open Period job creates these trace files and if we can stop it from creating them.  While the job was running, it caused all other jobs to come to a complete halt.  The DBA had to keep an eye on it and clear it out in order to not interfer with other processing.
