Get value of linked item in product script

There is a workaround to get value of linked item using description provided in doc 1320849.1.  It got other issues like how we pull rowids into the script again. But I am wondering do we have any direct method to pull value of linked item in script ? Our version is "8.1.1.7 SIA [21238] ENU".  Please advice if you know any. We have method like SetAttribute. Like that do we have any for GetLinkedItemValue ?
