DML support on synonyms

I found from the GG 11.2.1 documentation that DML is not supported on synonyms. Replication doesn't work for all kinds of synonyms? Or only cross different schemas?

We want to set up replication between Oracle 11.2 DBs, but there are quite many synonyms that are used by applications to do the DML.
