Import BOM only with current or current & future components

Hi everybody,
how can I populate BOM only with current & future components and not with all (on R12.1.3) ?
 I tried set profile option "CZ: Structure and Rules Effectivity" to "Current". But this profile option seems to have another purpose... can anyone explain the function of this profile option?
