Serial number Tear down

Hello, GM
This should be some ongoing issue which other Business also has I reckon. Whenever an item comes back for repair & most times it is rusty or Serial hidden & we cannot identify the Serial number when receipt. Whats the best way of handling this. We cannot enter the 'right' Serial when receipt. Entering dummy serial will impact / create IB for those.

We have these parts IB enabled as well. Please advise
