Sales Stage History Report

 Hi, Itry to build report on Sales Stage History area which give us sanap-shot of the last sale-stage of every month. Now the report give us the results of all the deal-stage changes of every month, and I want only the last ( the sale stage that "close" the month). How  I try to use function "Max" on Stage Start Date but it does not works  because i can not control the grouping. 
Can I do it somehow?
