Table locking in master-master replication environments

Hi,
Simple question (for those who are fully familiar with Advanced Replication) - my customer has a master-master replication environment (i.e. replication can go both ways). He suspects that, when a fast refresh is performed, the tables in question are locked (i.e. a lock is applied to the whole table). Can you confirm that this is actually true, please?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance, Andrew
