Oracle startup and shutdown

I have a Oracle 11g database running on windows 2008 server.  I am going to rely on windows to handle the startup and shutdown on Oracle everytime I re-start the window host.  Assuming my registry setting is correct in windows when I setup the Oracle database, I wonder if there is a log or trace file in Oracle where I could check to see if the database is being shutdown or startup properly when I restart the host window server?
