Web Services - is r8.2 backward compatible with r7?

I have a construction scheduling app that is integrates with P6r7 Web Services. It's deployed as a SaaS application where the user provides the IP address and credentails for the Web Services module running inside their network to establish the connection.

 I would like to enhance the integration so that it works with both the r7 and r8.2 version of Web Services.  I have heard that r8.2 is "backward compatible" but I can't find any documentation or sample programs that demonstrate how this can be achieved.  My initial questions are:

- Does the r8.2 version of Web Services directly support the same calls/syntax we are currently using for r7?  If so, I shouldn't have to change my integration code at all because it should be able to talk to either version of web services
