upgrade odbc on WebSphere Application Server 7.0

We need to upgrade the Oracle provided "odbc" files on a WAS (Websphere application server) v7.0 to facilitate successful 11gR2 connections.  Any guidance on the approach is appreciated.  Some say to copy the odbcj6 from the 11gR2 database media, but I would like to get some comments on this approach before proceeding.

Oracle 11gR2 Databases run on RHEL and Solaris Operating Systems.

IBM WAS (Websphere Application Server) v7.0 runs on RHEL and Solaris Operating Systems.
