Patch fixing

I have an 11.2.0.1 instance with the terminal patch applied (according to "opatch lsinventory").  The datafiles (all of them) were replace by an older backup of them, but OPatch still shows the patch has been applied.  My question is:  Can I remove the patch and re-apply it (to be sure that any changes to the database are actually in-place)?  [I suspect that "opatch lsinventory" doesn't get its information from the datafiles, but from an external, maybe xml inventory file.]
