DBConsole issues - 10.2.0.4

Hi

We have a 10.2.0.4 database on Linux on which we are having problems with dbconsole
We can pull up the URL fine and then it prompts us for username and password
when we enter the username / password we get the following error

Error
java.lang.Exception: Exception in sending request:: null

here is the output of emctl status dbconsole and emctl status agent

[oracle@oracle-server bin]$ emctl status dbconsole
TZ set to US/Central
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.2.0.4.0
