Testing NCS maintenance before production implementation

First step in upgrading from NCS 6.1 to ELS 7.1 was applying maintenance.  Now I'm trying to determine extent of testing required.

FYI (disclaimer)... I'm new to the NCS software, the person that previously worked with it has new responsibilities, so I'm learning as I go (Actually referring to documentation).  

Background:

     3 LPARs, TECH, DEVL & PROD.

     PROD & DEVL share a CDS.  HTTP Server runs on DEVL and monitors requests from TECH.

     Maintenance has been applied. It affected HSC, SMC, HTTP, and VTCS.

     Maintenance implemented in TECH LPAR, but that doesn't exercise much of the maintenance (only run SMC in TECH)

     Next step is to implement maintenance in DEVL LPAR.
