java.sql.SQLRecoverableException: Closed Connection

The full error message is attached to this post.The connection is a data source, connection pool connecting to the database.
What could be causing this kind of error?  It went on for about 15 min and then everything went back to normal.
Could it be network issue, a problem connecting middle tier server to the database server.
