Picklist not showing-up in real time / historical report

Hi All,

I observed a very awkward behavior while creating a picklist in an object. Soemtimes, that particular field is readily available in reports section right away & sometimes not. Why is it that picklist not showing-up in real time / historical reports?

Appreciate if somone can guide in right direction or if I'm missing some point.
