Adjustment to Invoice awaiting approval doesn't allow user to approve or reject

Good day,

I've a user that is attempting to reject an adjustment so that they can apply a proper valued adjustment against the invoice.  The now get an error message that indicates the adjustment is "not in the current period".  The adjustment was dated in January and January period is now closed and we are in February.  How can this be 'fixed'.
