Advantages of level 0 backup plus archive log backup over lavel 0 and level 1 backups

What are the advantages of using backup strategy of level 0 backup plus archive logs backup over level 0 and level 1 backup?

For instance in the first case level 0 backup is performed on Sunday and then archive logs are backed up every day of the week, and in second case level 0 backup performed ob Sunday and then level 1 cumulative backups are taken every day of the week. Can someone tell me what are the advantages/disadvantages of each strategy?
