Inventory: Selecting Reserved Serial Number during Transact Move Order

We would like to be able to reserve a SN before an order is entered and then be able to select that SN during transact move order when specific order comes through.  Only workaround we've found right now is to reserve at SN level, put order in, delete reservation and then reserve at SO line.
Bug 1122246 says it is not possible, but that is an 11i bug.  We are on R12.  Anyone know if this is possible?
