Customer Merge

Hi,
Two of our customers have mergerd and we want to use customer merge functionallity of receivables.

Suppose customer A and B merged on 31 dec 2012.
We want all the transaction before 31 dec 2012 to show the old original customer details in all the reporting  but all the transactions after 31 dec 2012 should show the new customer name.
While using the merger functionallity we cannot find a date feild where wecan give 31st dec 2012.

Can anyone help?
