Ability to Search with in the configurator product tree

Hi

One of our business requirement, it to enable Search functionality with in product tree in configurator session. This featire exists using "generic Configurator UI", but we have custom UI and lot of configurator rules.

How can we add search there? Any pointers, would be greatly appreciated.
