Local /etc/passwd users allowed for NFS and identify mapping between AD and Unix?
I am running Netapp and plan on migrating to ZFS. In netapp i can create local /etc/passwd users and use those users for my NFS shares and identity mapping between Windows & Unix.
In other words, I am not required to use an external Unix directory service like NIS or LDAP.
I dont read anything in ZFS documenation which suggests that /etc/passwd users can be created. My question is:
if I need NFS V3 shares(not NFS V4) , am I forced to use NIS as a user name repository?
I have only few Unix users(user names for running applications). Am I forced to setup an NIS service just to make this identity mapping works?
