RCV: Processing Mode - Immediate vs Online

Hello,
For the RCV: Processing Mode profile option, I am trying to determine the best method. It seems as thought the "Online" method would be the fastest, but does that mean that any transactions sitting in the staging table do not get picked up if "Immediate" is not selected?
