Importing a Customizable Product with attributes into Siebel

This may have been answered somewhere on the forums. If so, please point me to the threads.

We are trying to create a Product Master outside Siebel which will create simple products, classes, attributes and product structures in this external system, then publish it to Siebel via a web service. Please let us know if this has been done before.

The challenges we see in doing this are many: the XML structure of the product required for importing to Siebel references many proprietary ids/foreign keys such as Class Id, Port Id, Orig Id which need to be populated in the XML.
