Mapping of wrong item code with other item code

Hi Guru's,
There is an XXXX item created in the Item Master and also transactions done using the item.

It was found later that the item was wrongly defined, now the business says to disable the item and instead map with other item code.

Is this possible, I mean mapping of wrong item with other item code.

Kindly suggest.
