UK PAY: RTI - Calculation of Statutory Payments Recovery

The following operations must be performed by all customers who are submitting EPS to HMRC: Call the seeded formula function (FF) from the Custom formulae attached to the seeded statutory elements (e.g. Statutory Maternity Pay) Pass Amount input value as a parameter. The seeded fast formula will pass the Recovery and NIC Compensation computed values to the out parameters specified on the user formulae. These values must then be returned to the appropriate seeded indirect elements for Recovery & NIC Compensation using the Formula Results functionality For example: Computed SMP Recovery amount must be returned to "SMP Recovery" element's Pay Value. Computed SMP NIC Compensation must be returned to "SMP NIC
I'm in the process of configuring the changes to RTI for the 2013/14 Tax Year and am not clear about the steps that need to be taken to implement the Statutory Payments Recovery.
The latest White Paper (Real Time Information Whitepaper 2013-14 - Page 27) states:
