Changing Fixed Asset Constants - Changing from the Unit # to the Serial # as the Primary Key

Currently we are using the Unit # field as our primary key however the field is not large enough for our new users.  We are thinking of switching to the Serial # field which allows up to 25 characters.  We have tested changing the constants and find the applications simply switch over to the serial # field for data entry and inquiries.

Is anyone aware of any downside to switching to the Serial # field?  We are currently using the following modules:  Fixed Assets, Capital Assets, Service Management, various Financial Modules and Logistics.  We have been on JDE OneWorld since 1999.

Has anyone had any success with making the switch over and if so, do you have any helpful tips?
