To All Manufacturing Customers: Looking for Suggestions on New Versus Rebuilt Equipment

We manufacture both new and rebuilt equipment.  When rebuilding a used piece of equipment we don’t know what parts are reusable until it is torn apart, therefore the BOM is set up the same as the new one.  About 250 – 300 components.  Apparently when this was originally set up some years ago someone told them to base the BOM quantity on the percentage of replacements for a part.  For example, a part that is replace 1 in every 4 rebuilds has a .25 in the BOM quantity.  (This causes all kinds of problems – but that’s another story).  Because of the purchasing
