DMZ-Server for i-modules -Oracle Applications

Hi All,
I am in the procress of implementing iExpense module. In the process of gathering some useful information, I have come across a note on the internet which says we need to configure DMZ server if i-Modules are to be accessed outside the given network. How far is this true? And if true could some one provide us the details on how DMZ server works and on how to configure it.?
