What is significance of Collection Group in ASCP?

Hi,

   Could you please tell me, what is significance of collection group?
   We are haviong 2 collection group.
   1) ATP with Demand Planning unchecked. (it has 35 orgs which not visible then why are they collected.
   2) PLAN with Demand Planning unchecked. (it has 32 orgs which visibles in plan)

Help me please.
