Enable ''Start Date'' and ''End Date'' on Contract form

hi,
I am currently working on the contracts form (enter and maintain -> others -> contract),  the Active dates - Start Date and End Date fields are faded and cannot not be edited,
 and I want to be able to edit them, so that we are able to have the system end the contract using the end date specified on the form.

I do not want to use the Form Personalization option.
