R12.1.3 - Procurement Contracts - XML Template Questions

We are implementing the PCA Contracts module and we're adjusting the PO XML Template in a .rtf file to suit our needs.  But I've run into weird stuff.  Can anyone help with any of these listed below:

1) The line_amount and quantity display either a D or an N in the middle.  I've tried various formats on the form field but none of them change it.  The strange thing is when I select Preview on the Template under the XML Publisher Admin resposnbility, they display correctly.  But the same xml sample data shows the D or N in the actual data.  How do I get this to format correctly when used with live data?
