ASM instance creation In windows

 Dear Experts, 
  
   I have no experience working with ASM, I am planning to learn it by creating a sample ASM instance in my Windows 7 laptop. To create the ASM instance do I have to install GI home along with the normal ORACLE_HOME, as I am learning we need CSS service UP & Running for the ASM instance to function properly. 

  Please advise.
