Asset number to be in sequence with alpha numeric by asset category wise

 Hi,

we have a requirement that asset number in FA should be in sequence with alpha numeric (i.e. BSV Value+first three letters of asset category+ sequence number) by asset category wise.

Please note that we using R12 version.

I am aware that there is no such standard functionality to achieve this but which one is the better approach to customize to achieve this requirement.

should we do the customization to generate customized asset number or can we use Tag number column to achieve this or please let me know which one is the better approach.

Also could you please provide me the back end list of  table names in FA for R12.
