Transaction Post Processor - What is its purpose? Need detailed explanation. Thanks!

I need help understanding the purpose of the Transaction Post Processor.  I have read the Oracle Retail Documentation on the Transaction Post Processor.  I know how to set the job in BackOffice and CentralOffice so that it runs on a cron (i.e. every 5 minutes, 10 mins, etc).

My understanding is that the Transaction Post Processor is to update the totals for the base Oracle Reports (Flash Sales, etc) in BackOffice.

However, I unclear about what purpose is the Transaction Post Processor for BackOffice and CentralOffice?

What is the impact to ORPOS (BackOffice and CentralOffice) is the Transaction Post Processor is not running? What the negative affect?

Howdy, Stranger!
