ASM command line not showing candidate disks

I'm running into a problem using the ASM command line "asmcmd":

  Executing the command "lsdsk -p" does not list any candidate disks available for the disk group. Using Grid Control shows the candidate disks correctly.

  Has anyone ever run into this or have an explanation why the command line does not work properly?

  ASM version : 11.2.0.2

  Database version : 10.2.0.4

  O/S : AIX 64 bit.
