Mirror EMC-Storage to Violin - DB-downtime needed?

Hi all,
we are going mirror our existing VMAX(EMC)-Storage-Disc to  a new build Violin storage in order to transfer the database. On our VMAX this works without any error and without any db-downtime. Are there any experiences, best practice if this works in the described way also without downtime?
